Let’s take a look at the game

In Avowed you are a godlike who is sent to git rid of whatever is infecting the people. This game is beautiful with colorful creatures and wonderful environments to look at. This game will have you helping the people. You will try to understand just what you are. You will also learn how to rid the world of this plague.

The game takes place in first person. You have some movement at your fingertips. You can jump pretty far farther than you would think. You can also run without using stamina and that is a great feature we all can appreciate. You can crouch this lets you go under obstacles and while running you hit the crouch button you will slide. There is also a dodge mechanic this does use stamina, and you can dodge left, right or backwards. You can also swim in this game you do have a breath meter.

This game rewards you for going out and exploring. Just about everywhere you go explore will have chest’s and maybe even unique items. I have never felt like it was a waste of time. Whenever I saw something that looked interesting, I went to look at it and was rewarded. There are hidden rooms to find as well.

You have a compass that will show you some of the things you can gather. It will not show you chest or backpacks things like that. Chest also have a glow to them showing the rarity of items in them. If its gold, there is a unique item in it.

You can gather food that will regen health and essence over time. This only happens outside of combat. You can eat the food for the world without having to pick it up first. You can also eat food from the ability wheel.

You will hear a noise when there is something to open. The noise is directional this does make it easier to find. The noise will be there for a chest, backpack or even a body.

You will sometimes come across a locked chest or door you will need lockpicks. Lockpicking is very simple in this game all you do is hold down the button. Some locks do require a number of picks.

Some places will have a barred door. you will have to find a way into the place and open the door from the other side. This was one of my favorite things to do in this game.

A really cool feature to use while exploring is the grenades. There are 5 different ones. Fire, Ice, Electric, Magic and Explosive. You can use the Ice ones to create a frozen platform on the water. You can use this to get to place you can’t reach. There are also walls you need to explode. Vines to burn and bars to freeze. The grenades are really helpful I recommend not wasting them in combat.

You can also find or buy treasure maps. These maps show you where the treasure is located. The thing is the map might have been drawn before the plaque took over the island. This makes it a little bit more difficult to find the treasure.

The most epic thing this game does is with the music. As you approach certain spots in this game, the music becomes epic. It is such a cool feeling when it happens. I recommend climbing the lighthouse in the first area to experience this.

As for place to go each area except for the final area has a town/city. There you can find bounty boards to get well… bounties. There are also plenty of shops and people that will give you quests.

At shops you can sell items that are in your camp stash. This is so nice when your collecting items to sell when low on gold.

At camp you can upgrade your weapons and armor as well as talk to your companions. Your companions will want to talk a lot. You can also cook at camp. Food can have added effects to help you out in tougher fights if you need it.

An amazing feature this game has is the ability to travel to camp from most locations. As well as return to previous location when exiting the camp. This is helpful when needing to swap companions.

There is no such thing as stealing in this game. Very few times will people get mad at you for taking their stuff. So, take it all.

For me a huge plus is that the first town/city is the biggest.

As for the combat its pretty straight forward. With one handed weapons, you can equip a shield. You can also equip another one handed weapon. This could even be a one handed gun. Two handed weapons you can one have one equipped. With magic you have a wand and a grimoire. The Grimoire will have 3 spells you can find different grimoires with different spells. The bows or 2 handed guns don’t require ammo you always just have ammo.

During combat enemies have a stun bar when you fill it you get to do a special attack. The bows special attack is insane you load up 4 arrows and shoot them rapid fire.

You do have a really cool sneak attack if you can get behind an enemy without them hearing you.

You can also use grenades in combat. I don’t recommend this they are more valuable for exploration.

The weapons and armor have rarity’s with legendary being the highest. A cool aspect of this game is that you can take the first weapon you get and upgrade it all the way to legendary. Upgrading takes gold and materials. You can get materials from finding them or by breaking down old gear. The materials can also be upgraded to the higher tiers of materials. As for armor you equip a chest piece, boots, gloves, two rings and a trinket or necklace.

There are unique items that have extra traits like more stealth damage and more health. Unique weapons can also be enhanced one time to give them a better trait. Once you make your choice on the weapons it is final can’t undo.

With the armor you can hide or transmog them. In order to transmog you must keep the equipped armor as well as the armor you are using to transmog. If you don’t know what transmog is. It’s making a piece of armor look like a different piece of armor. So, you can get your fashion on.

You also get to have two sets of weapons equipped and can swap with the press of one button. So, you can have ranged in one and melee in the other.

The game has a very interesting feature. The only items with weight are the weapons and chest armor. You also stash anything to you camp stash from you inventory so weight is not a problem. You can also break down armor and weapons from your inventory and the materials you get don’t weigh anything.

As you level up you will get skill points and attribute points. The skills are broken down into categories fighter focuses on melee weapons and being in the enemy’s face. ranger focus on ranged and controlling the battlefield as well as a bear summon. Wizard focus on well magic and godlike is where see the ability’s you get from the story. Companions this is where you get to give you companions better skills.

Attributes are Might – damage. Constitution – max health. Dexterity – attack speed. Perception – Crit chance and max range. Intellect – max essence. Resolve – max stamina

There are 4 companions in the game each with their own skills. You meet them as the story progresses. Some companions have elements you can use to burn vines or electrify switches. You can only take 2 companions with you.

As you play this game you will have to make choices, and they do matter. They can shape the ending or even who will help you at the end of the game. For example, I chose to help a person instead of killing them and they helped me in the final fight.

Not everything you can do in this game will be tracked like quests. You might find a note talking about come test your strength come to certain location. This will not be tracked in your quest log you just have to do it.

Should You Play?

This is a tough one for me. On one hand I did enjoy my time with this game. On the other hand, I dont think this game is worth the price. I played this game on game pass it’s on both Xbox and PC. Game pass has deals all the time for cheap. I would say play this game through game pass.

This game is fun in short play sessions after about 3 hours I am ready to stop playing. The story is ok at best nothing groundbreaking but that’s fine. You also can pet the bear summon.

For me some of the best parts of this game are the locations they look so good. Also the NPC’s shut up when you talk to someone. It is so nice not having to hear 5 different people talking at the same time. As well as all the quality of life this game has with weight not being an issue. Being able to fast travel to camp and return to previous location is incredible.

One last thing the character creator focuses on just the head of your character. It’s not a bad creator. It does have a good amount of options that you will be happy with the result.
