Hello and welcome to my first ever blog post. I want to convince you that Final Fantasy IX is worth your time. It is my favorite game of all time.
Final Fantasy IX was originally released in the year 2000 for the PlayStation 1. Published by Square now Square Enix. Despite the name FF9 (Final Fantasy IX) is its own game and not a direct sequel to FF8(Final Fantasy VIII). You can find Final Fantasy IX on
Overview
Final Fantasy IX is a JRPG or Japanese role-playing game. Don’t worry, the game is supported in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish. As an RPG, Final Fantasy IX features a story-focused experience. Completing just the story can take around 40 hours. If you take your time, it can take around 80+ hours to finish. Final Fantasy IX has an amazing soundtrack that you can just relax to while you enjoy this fantastic game.
Story
I’m not going to spend a lot of time on the story. This is due to spoilers. I feel you should experience the story and all the character development for yourself. Just a little teaser the game does start with a kidnapping.
The Characters
Now time for in my opinion the best part of Final Fantasy games the characters let’s start with the main character
Zidane Tribel – is a lovable thief with a tail. He has a heart of gold and is an incredible person who believes in people. Also really likes women I mean really likes woman. Zidane wields daggers or a thief’s sword (think a dagger on each end of a stick). Throughout the game you will see zidane being a leader and a really good friend. He is also… well That would be a spoiler.
Vivi Ornitier – MY BOY!! Vivi is my all-time favorite video game character. As a young child playing this game for the first time, I felt so connected to Vivi. I felt out of place just as Vivi does in this game. Vivi is a black mage with a very unique background that would be spoilers if I told you. Vivi might just have the most character development out of all the characters in this game. He starts by being lost and not knowing who he is. Eventually, he is treated as an equal and a friend. There is so much to say about Vivi. I’m trying my best not to spoil too much of this amazing game. Just be aware. There is a good chance you are going to feel the feels for Vivi as you play. I certainly did.
Garnet Til Alexandros XVII – or princess Garnet is a very important character in the story. At the start of the game, she plans to run away. She wants to escape from her mother and the kingdom she is destined to rule. trying to write about her and not you know spoiling anything is very difficult. Let’s just say she goes from princess to changing her name to finding out the truth about who she is. All while Zidane is constantly hitting on her.
Adelbert Steiner – the captain of the knights of Pluto. He chooses to join Zidane and the others. He wants to keep princess Garnet safe. Steiner faces tough decisions. He learns the truth about what is happening in the world while in a big suit of armor. He is also one of the first people to treat Vivi with respect, he also regards him as master Vivi.
Quina Quen – is very interesting. He is a blue mage who eats enemies to learn skills. He also wields a giant fork as a weapon. There is a mini game involving Quina about catching frogs his favorite food. Quina is completely optional early on in the game. Eventually, you have to recruit him for story reasons.
There are, of course, plenty of other characters. Discussing them might start to spoil the game, and I don’t want to do that. Just note there are many other very interesting characters you will meet as you play this game.
Features
Equipment Abilities – some gear you get along your adventure will have abilities you can master. When you win battles with the gear equipped, you will gain AP. After gaining enough, you will master the ability. You can then equip the ability without needing the gear. Allowing you can put on better gear.
Chocobos – you get to ride Chocobos not only that but there is a treasure hunt involving these best buddies. The treasure hunt is an optional quest. If you choose to do it, you will get an image of a location in the world. You need to ride a Chocobo to that location and dig up the treasure. One last thing There is different color Chocobos with different abilities.
Trance – is a surge of emotions that amplify the users power allowing them to use different abilities. This unlocks as you advance the story and becomes a part of the combat in the game.
Combat
Final Fantasy IX has random encounters. It has a turn-based combat system. You will have to wait your turn to choose what you would like the character to do. You can basic attack or use skills use an item, magic users can use well magic. In the case of Vivi and Steiner, after a certain event in the story, Vivi can cast black magic on Steiner’s sword. This gives his attack an element. There are also a couple of characters who can summon eidolons. These are mystical beasts that have a variety of different effects.
Conclusion
So, I asked the question should you play Final Fantasy IX? my answer is yes. This game is so wonderful. It is full of amazing characters with a beautiful soundtrack. The story is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. The game my take a long to complete but it is worth it. I hope you give this game a chance.
